Clyde Rathbone is regarded as one of the most feared finishers in world rugby. The fair-haired winger has been a core member for the CA Brumbies and the Wallabies since bursting onto the Australian provincial scene in 2004. The 26 year old began the season in the best possible manner, scoring the CA Brumbies’ second 2007 Investec Super 14 try against the Chiefs in their first-round 21-15 win in Hamilton. Rathbone maintained his position on the CA Brumbies’ right flank for seven of their next eight matches before his season was cruelly cut short by a knee injury. Despite an intensive rehabilitation process, he was unable to return to the field in time for the domestic Test season or Pacific Nations Cup, effectively dashing his chances of reclaiming his place within the Wallabies for the Rugby World Cup. Rathbone, who is one of many outside back options for the ACT-based province including Stirling Mortlock, Adam Ashley-Cooper, Mark Gerrard, Peter Playford and Francis Fainifo, re-signed with the CA Brumbies for a further two seasons in May.

Born in Durban, South Africa, Rathbone attended Kingsway High where he represented the South African Schools side in 1999. Rathbone, a prodigy of South African rugby, captained the national Under 21’s side to a World Championship and made his Super Rugby debut for the Sharks in 2002. At the end of that season, he joined the CA Brumbies. While a groin injury interrupted his 2003 season, Rathbone made his debut for the CA Brumbies the following year, playing each match and scoring nine tries in the Championship season. The hard-running flyer made his Wallaby debut against Scotland in 2004 and scored a hat trick of tries against England the following week. Blessed with blistering acceleration and a fearless hard-running game, Rathbone has been a regular for the CA Brumbies and Wallabies for the past four years.
