John I Dent Cup Round 3 Previews

Match of the Round:
Uni-Norths v Royals, ANU North Oval, Turner
First Grade: 3.05pm, Reserve Grade: 1.40pm, Colts: 12.15pm

Uni-North and Royals have enjoyed a solid start to the season with both having recorded four try bonus point wins over Easts and a bye in the first two rounds. Uni-Norths will enter the match with six changes from their round one victory, and hope the squad’s depth can cover the loss of Brumbies contracted players Tom Cox and Dylan Sigg.

Royals only have one change to the team from last week with Reece Coble starting in place of
Liam Slater. Brumbies contracted players Siliva Siliva and Kimani Sitauti will again be available
after performing well last week.

Uni-Norths will be looking to control the game, and shut down the attacking flair which Royals have
shown early season. If they can contain 2011 Macdougal Medalist Sokai Tai and cut down the
options of Royals captain and fly half Craig McMahon, it will surely be an interesting contest.

Gungahlin v Tuggeranong, Nicholls Oval, Nicholls
First Grade: 3.05pm, Reserve Grade: 1.40pm, Colts: 12.15pm

Gungahlin have started their 2012 campaign in great fashion, with victories in the first two rounds.

They have shown great determination to get over the line in close games and will gain a large amount of confidence coming into this fixture. They will need to be on top of their game coming up against the 2011 John I Dent Premiers Tuggeranong, who started their season with a convincing 12 try display against Queanbeyan last weekend.

Gungahlin have made 5 changes to their line up, and will be hoping that Leigh Weston can be as devastating in attack after moving from full back to fly-half this weekend.

Tuggeranong have announced an unchanged line up from last weekend and will be looking to build on their fine start with another positive display. Brumbies contracted player Colby Faingaa will once again be available for Tuggeranong and will be hoping for another high-quality performance this weekend. Scott Sio and Zac Holmes will be notable exclusions from the squad as they are currently touring with the Brumbies squad in South Africa.

Queanbeyan v Wests, Campese Field, Queanbeyan
First Grade: 3.05pm, Reserve Grade: 1.40pm, Colts: 12.15pm

Queanbeyan will be coming into this third round encounter looking for their first win of the season after a disappointing second round defeat to Tuggeranong.

With three changes in the starting line up and many positional changes in the forwards, they will be looking to tighten up their defence which leaked in 15 tries in the first two rounds, including 12 last week.

They come up against a strong Wests side that were narrowly beaten last week in a tightly contested Match of the Round
encounter at Canberra Stadium. Wests have made two changes in the forwards and named an unchanged backline which looked dangerous with ball in hand.

With both teams losing narrowly to Gungahlin in the first two rounds, this is sure to be a close encounter as these sides look to get their season rolling with a win.
