An impressive Brumby Runners season and strong form for club side Sydney University have elevated 21-year-old lock Sam Carter to a two-year contract with the CA Technologies Brumbies.
In a boost for the side’s lock stocks, Carter has inked a deal that will keep him in the CA Technologies Brumbies main squad through to the end of 2013.
Carter was a stand out performer for the Brumby Runners this season through his set piece, defence and around the park.
The Sydney University student was also impressive when playing with the main squad against the Hurricanes during their trial match at Viking Park earlier in the year.
After arriving in Canberra at the start of the year as an Academy hopeful, Carter has gone on to train with the main squad for the majority of 2011.
In ideal learning conditions for a budding second-rower, Carter has perfected his game alongside veteran locks like Ben Hand and Mark Chisholm – all under the watchful eye of Forwards Coach Justin Harrison.
Carter said he was pleased with his promotion from the Brumbies Academy and would continue to work hard on his rugby.
“It’s very pleasing to be able to secure a contract here in the ACT for the next two years, it was one of my goals at the start of this year and now it’s up to me to take the next step,” Carter said.
“I feel like I’ve grown a lot as a player since starting in the Brumbies Academy and having had the chance to train and work with the main squad on a regular basis has been one of the highlights.
“Talking to guys like Justin Harrison, Ben Hand and Mark Chisholm has been a massive help for my game – those guys have been around for a long time and it’s been encouraging to get some positive feedback from them.
“Next year is a big one for the CA Technologies Brumbies and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
