Alexander re-signs with Brumbies Rugby

The CA Technologies Brumbies playing roster will field another star Wallaby until at least the end of 2013, with versatile prop Ben Alexander announcing a two-year contract with both the ARU and Brumbies Rugby today.

At 120kg and with 24 Test caps to his name, Alexander’s signature was one of the most sought after both in Australia and further abroad.

Alexander is the third CA Technologies Brumby to re-sign in Australia in a week, following the signatures of Stephen Moore and Adam Ashley-Cooper.

“At the end of the day my main focuses are to be winning games and to improve as a player,” Alexander said.

“After I weighed everything up I came to the conclusion that the best place to do that is at the Brumbies and with the Wallabies.

“Brumbies Scrum Coach Marco Caputo has been doing some exciting things with us at training this year and I am looking forward to working with him in the future.

“The British and Irish Lions Tour in 2013 and the chance to be a part of such a young and dynamic Wallabies team also had a big impact on my decision.

“There were some very attractive offers from Europe but I am happy with my decision and ready to take on the Hurricanes tomorrow night and the Chiefs next weekend.”

After a busy week at the office, Brumbies Rugby Chief Executive Andrew Fagan was excited to secure another star player to his roster after this year’s World Cup.

He said Alexander’s mobility around the park and ability to play on both sides of the scrum had made his signature an important one.

“Ben is a player who has become an important part of the Brumbies pack and it is very satisfying to have secured him for the next two years,” Fagan said.

“He has proven himself as a world class front-rower, claiming our best forward award in 2009 and he was our top try scorer in 2010.

“Benny will be looked to for leadership and guidance for some of our younger players during the next two years of his career, both with the Brumbies and the Wallabies.”
