The CA Technologies Brumbies have made further inroads to securing a competitive playing roster past 2011 by inking the signatures of Robbie Coleman, Ita Vaea and Jono Owen until the end of 2013.
While Owen is yet to make his Super Rugby debut, Coleman and Vaea have both been standouts for the CA Technologies Brumbies in 2011, having scored tries in the first and third games respectively.
Brumbies Rugby Chief Executive Andrew Fagan was happy to announce the additions to the team.
“Having promoted these players from the Brumbies Academy to the fulltime squad, it’s a good indication that what we are doing with our development programs is right on track,” Fagan said.
“Jono was outstanding in the ITM Cup last year and Robbie and Ita have been just as impressive for the CA Technologies Brumbies so far this season.
“It’s another step in the right direction for the CA Technologies Brumbies.”
Coleman’s aged grade credentials made him one of the most sought after players in Australia at the start of the 2011 Super Rugby season. The 2010 Australian Under 20’s player of the year has proven his ability in 2011, having marked up on Ma’a Nonu, Tana Umaga, Julian Huxley and Sonny Bill Williams in consecutive weeks.
Vaea has also proven he has the ability to lift to another level, making the most of his four Super Rugby appearances and scoring a try against the Reds in Week Three.
Owen has previously played rugby in New Zealand’s ITM Cup with Counties Manukau and has proven himself as a quality scrummager and ferocious defender. The 123kg prop became a YouTube sensation late last year when he belted Manawatu Turbos player Tomasi Cama, earning 27,000 views along the way.
