After returning to the Brumbies in 2016 following two years with the Western Force, Robbie Abel made his long-awaited Super Rugby debut in South Africa, against the Cheetahs in Round Five.

Following on from his impressive performances in 2016, the 27-year old signed an upgraded full playing squad contract for 2017.

Abel was a standout junior in the ACT, forcing his way into the Australian Schoolboys side in 2008 whilst playing for local Rugby nursery St Edmunds College. Abel took a two-year hiatus from rugby in 2010 and 2011 to undertake his Mormon mission, before returning to join the Brumbies Academy in 2012 and playing for Northland in the ITM Cup in 2013.

Despite only having two Super Rugby caps to his name, Abel has forged a reputation for himself as one of the Buildcorp NRC’s best performers during the first three years of the competition. Playing for both the Perth Spirit and the UC Vikings, Abel has made 25 appearances and scored 13 tries, putting him amongst the competitions highest scorers.

Following the departure of Stephen Moore, Abel will be pushing for more regular game time with the Brumbies in 2017.
