In modern Rugby, it’s not enough to have one good set of props. The Brumbies have two elite props in the run-on side, but they are ably backed up by several excellent front-rowers. Having a guy like Les Leuluaialii-Makin coming off the bench is what championship squads are made of.

Built in a lab for scrummaging, Leuluaialii-Makin is a gifted tight head, and his work rate around the park continues to improve

Leuluaialii-Makin was picked up by the Brumbies prior to the start of the 2015 Super Rugby season after a string of impressive performances for the Vikings in the National Rugby Championship, the local lad being named tighthead of the tournament.

Born and bred in the ACT and schooled at famed rugby nursery St Edmund’s College, Leuluaialii-Makin rose through the representative ranks in the ACT, culminating in selection for the Australian Schoolboys in 2010. Following his graduation from St Edmund’s Leuluaialii-Makin played for the Queanbeyan Whites in the John I Dent Cup, making his First Grade debut in 2011.

Leuluaialii-Makin continued to develop and went on to represent the Australian U20’s at the Junior World Cup in 2012 alongside current Brumbies teammate Tom Cusack.

After an injury plagued first season in Brumbies colours Leuluaialii-Makin began to make his mark in 2016, debuting against the Hurricanes during the Brumbies Round 1 demolition of the eventual Super Rugby champions.

If the Brumbies are to get back to the playoffs in 2019, Leuluaialii-Makin will have an important role to play.
