In his professional rugby career, Peter Hewat played over 150 games, spanning three continents. It’s that level of experience which should have Brumbies fans excited to have Hewat on board as Backs coach for 2018.
Hewat, bagged 636 points in only fifty matches for the Waratahs across three seasons as a player, and had been Coaching in Japan, at Suntory Sungoliath in the Japanese Top League for the past five years having been a standout as a player for the Asian powerhouse for a trio of years prior to his coaching appointment.
Having previously worked with Head coach Dan McKellar at Suntory, Hewat now rounds out the coaching staff for 2018, keen to make his presence felt.
“I am certainly excited by the opportunity of joining the Brumbies and becoming a part of the Brumbies family,” Hewat commented. “The Brumbies are a globally-renowned team who, historically, have always played an attacking and exciting brand of rugby.
“I have had some very enjoyable times in Japan with Suntory but feel that the time is right for a return to Australia. The chance to be involved with a team like the Brumbies is fantastic.
“I have been keeping a close watch on them this season and am looking forward to teaming up with Dan, Laurie and Peter to help the team achieve its goals and challenge for another Super Rugby title.”
