Tabcorp Brumbies backrower Rebecca Smyth has claimed the club's Helen Taylor Players’ Player of the Year award in her second year in Brumbies colours after an outstanding Super W season.

Smyth was an inspirational figure for the young Brumbies group in 2021, leading from the front in a forward pack which dominated the Super W competition.

The Narromine local routinely made the long journey to Canberra for training and trial games, showcasing her incredible commitment to the Brumbies, while on the field the former Wallaroo was a mainstay for her teammates, playing in every game in the side's campaign.

Tabcorp Brumbies backrower Rebecca Smyth: "I'm really proud to have been recognised by my teammates with this award."

"Joining the Brumbies last year, I didn't know what to expect but I've really enjoyed it, especially with this group of girls.

"We didn't get the results we wanted this season but we're improving and there's a lot of young talent for us to build on.

"I do have to thank my family especially for their support because it can be hard on them with the travel and hours away but they've been there for me every step of the way."

Longtime international teammate and ACT rugby stalwart Louise Burrows continued to set high standards for the Brumbies this season, ‘Cookie’ being selected as Members’ choice, Player of the Year.

Injury cut her season short, but Lillyann Mason-Spice’s dazzling start to the Super W competition was reflected in her selection as the Brumbies most outstanding young player.

Tabcorp Brumbies head coach Dan Hawke said: "We're so proud of our team for their commitment and improvements this season, but these three definitely deserve their honours."

"Rebecca was unbelievable for us, a dream to work with in all aspects and someone who thoroughly deserves this award.

"Cookie as well, it's incredible the performances she continues to put in and with Maso we had the pleasure of watching a star in the making and I believe this year was just the beginning for her."
