The Brumbies Runners will head to Albury this month for a hit-out against the Melbourne Rebels at Lavington Sports Ground.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 4pm on Friday February 19 and will provide invaluable playing minutes for squad members and developing players outside of the Plus500 Brumbies travelling group to Perth for the Super Rugby opener against the Western Force on the same day.

It will be the second consecutive year the two franchises meet in the border town and will serve as the Rebels only trial match, who have a bye in round one of Super Rugby AU.

Plus500 Brumbies General Manager of Professional Rugby and Pathways Chris Tindall said: "As an organisation we're really pleased to be able to head back to Albury for a match within the Southern Inland region of our Brumbies country."

"To be able to continue to connect with those in our region is something that's a priority for the Brumbies and we recognise and thank the Steamers Rugby Club and the Albury Council for their support to facilitate the match.

"We are looking forward to the playing a the newly completed Lavington Sports Ground which is an impressive facility and look forward to the local community coming out to watch the match which will feature current and future Super Rugby players.

"2020 provided limited opportunities to get our whole squad time on the field, so to be able to get most of our players some game time in week one of Super Rugby is a real positive for our players and season ahead."
