Easts Rugby Club won't compete in Premier Rugby this year.
Brumbies Rugby has confirmed Easts Rugby Club has withdrawn from Premier Rugby for the 2020 season opting to participate in the First Division competition.

ACT & SNSW Rugby Union officials were advised by Easts Rugby club that following communication with their playing group it became clear that they would not be in a position to field a Premier First Grade team for 2020.

The recent departure of their head coach, coupled with challenging circumstances including the ongoing impact of COVID-19 has placed significant pressure on Easts Rugby Club to compete at a Premier Grade level.

The ACT & SNSW Rugby Union remains committed to ensuring that Easts remains viable and competitive into the future.

Easts will compete in ACT Rugby’s First Division against clubs from across the Monaro region and the lower grades of the six remaining Premier grade clubs this season.

Supporting this decision, it was crucial that the Union remained flexible to ensure the continuation of one of our foundation clubs.

ACT & SNSW Rugby Union officials are working with Easts around coach and player development strategies moving forward.

We are dedicated to ensuring their ongoing viability and will continue to work with the Easts executive on a possible 2021 return to Premier Club status and continued competition in the John I Dent Cup.
Brumbies Rugby Deputy CEO & General Manager Community Rugby, Craig Leseberg said: ‘’Easts are a foundation club with a rich and proud history."

"It's important that we remain flexible and adaptable to support their needs during this challenging time.

‘’We are committed to working closely with Easts Rugby President, Huia Edmonds and the Easts Executive over the coming months around their coach and player development strategy to relaunch in 2021."

President of Easts Rugby Huia Edmonds said: "We are obviously disappointed we can’t field a Premier First Grade team for the revised 2020 season, however being able to keep our club alive by fielding a Division One team is a big relief."

"I’d like to thank ACT Rugby and SNSW Rugby Union for their support, encouragement and commitment to keep Easts surviving as a club.

"Thank you to all the players and staff who are standing by our historic club for the remainder of 2020 and we look forward to being stronger and more competitive once again in the Premier First Grade division in 2021.
