Plus500 Brumbies star backrow Tom Cusack will return to Sevens competition for the first time since 2016, after being selected in the Australian side for their upcoming Olympic Qualifiers.

Cusack recently re-signed to stay on with the Australian Conference Champions, penning a dual-contract with the Brumbies and Australia Sevens which will see him stay in Canberra until at least 2021.

The Brumbies Academy product first made his name in the limited numbers code, before joining the Super Rugby ranks with his boyhood club in 2017, making 33 appearances to date and scoring three tries.

With the Olympic games in Tokyo looming in 2020, Cusack will look to balance his Gold Medal dreams, with adding a third Super Rugby title to the Brumbies trophy cabinet, starting with the Oceania Sevens Championship this weekend.

Elsewhere, Queanbeyan’s Lewis Holland has been named as captain of the Aussie side, alongside Cusack in the 13-strong selection.

The Aussie Men will meet Vanuatu, Nauru, American Samoa and Tonga in Pool C with their main rivals shaping up to be Samoa and Tonga, who also share the same Olympic qualification path as Australia.

“The team has had a really good pre-season and we have prepared really well for the Oceania Sevens,” Australian Head Coach, Tim Walsh said.

“Every team competing is aiming to join the Olympic Games and we expect Tonga and Samoa to be the biggest barriers for us achieving that goal.”Matches will be streamed live on Oceania Rugby’s Facebook page.
