The Plus500 Brumbies will be part of a world first event when they take part in a Super Rugby / NRL double-header with the Canberra Raiders at Eden Park in Auckland next year.

The Brumbies will face the Blues as the second part of the double-header at the iconic New Zealand rugby venue on Saturday 21 March, with the Super Rugby Round 8 match kicking off at 7.35pm following on from the Raiders NRL match with the Auckland Warriors.

It’s believed that the dual-code feast of rugby will be a world first and will pit Auckland’s two oval ball clubs against their Australian capital counterparts in what’s being dubbed as the “Codes of Auckland”.

“We are delighted to be a part of this innovative and exciting event in Auckland,” Plus500 Brumbies CEO Phil Thomson said.

“This is a unique event and a chance for fans of both codes in Canberra to get behind their teams together in what should be a fantastic sporing spectacle played out at one of the World’s most famous venues.

“The double-header concept has been approved by NZ Rugby, SANZAAR and the NRL to proceed and we are very excited to take part in what will be a history creating event.”

The Brumbies reached the Super Rugby semi-finals in 2019, winning a fourth Australian Conference title in the process, whilst the Raiders, known as the ‘Green Machine’ reached their first NRL Final since 1994, going down to the Roosters in Sydney.

“The Raiders are looking forward to being part of a unique fan experience and the double header with the Brumbies at a world class venue like Eden Park should draw a big crowd,” Raiders CEO Don Furner said.

“This history making event is a chance for both codes to showcase their teams on the big stage and hopefully we see a Raiders and Brumbies double on the night.”

The Brumbies Super Rugby campaign, which will be their 25th year of involvement in the premier Southern Hemisphere competition, commences on Friday 31 January with the visit of the Reds to GIO Stadium in Canberra.
