Tom Banks scored a classic in the first half, but it wasn't enough to secure the win for the Brumbies.

The Jaguares have emerged victorious over a brave Plus500 Brumbies side who went down swinging backing up from a colossal effort last week in Cape Town.

Two beautiful tries from Folau Fainga'a and Tom Banks weren't enough to secure the points for the Brumbies, though they did take a bonus-point to add to their win against the Stormers on their first game on this gruelling tour.

For large parts of the first half, the Brumbies dominated territory but it was the Jaguares who would strike first, a flying counter-attack putting Cancellere in the right hand corner.

Despite conceding against the run of play, the Brumbies didn't look rattled and wasted no time getting up the other end of the field, and once in position, Folau Fainga'a levelled the scores up off the back of a clever lineout move.

It was the 23-year olds 7th try of the year, and probably his best as he busted through two would-be Jaguares defenders to dot down. Christian Lealiifano's conversion couldn't quite find the mark, but he would have another chance in the 20th minute.

The Brumbies continued to play the better rugby, using strong defence to frustrate the Jaguares before turning up the heat on attack. Off a scrum platform which was excellent throughout, the Brumbies swept right and after finding a seem in the Jaguares defence,

Tom Banks burned his opposite number and raced away to score in the same corner he did in 2017. With ten minutes to play in the first, the home side began to turn up the heat.

There were some question if he was held, but Matias Orlando's slithering effort to score set the course for the Jaguares, and Augustin Creevy's own five pointer five minutes later gave the home side the lead.

Christian Lealiifano's penalty just before the break meant the Brumbies at least were now just two away, but a 17-15 score board didn't reflect the Brumbies work in that period, and ultimately it would be their downfall.

In the second half, the Jaguares just looked the fresher side, coming off a bye and with their test-players back in tow. The Brumbies gave absolutely everything, but a lone Domingo Miotti penalty would complete the scoring in the 61st minute.

Chances came and went, the Brumbies going close late in the piece but ultimately the refreshed Jaguares proved too strong in the collisions and hung on for a well-earned victory.

The Brumbies are back in action this Saturday, May 4 against the Blues at GIO Stadium. You can get your tickets by clicking the link here.
