The stars of tomorrow will strut their stuff at David Campese Oval in Queanbeyan this Friday as the annual Matt Giteau Cup takes place at the home of the Queanbeyan Whites Rugby club.
Over 540 participants will don their team colours to take part in the huge festival of youth rugby which is named after the former Brumbies and Wallaby superstar Matt Giteau, who is from the New South Wales City.
“The Matt Giteau Cup is one of our largest youth rugby tournaments annually,” Plus500 Brumbies CEO Phil Thomson commented.
“The competition is a fantastic opportunity for local primary schools to attend a festival of the sport with the facilities at David Campese Oval proving to be an excellent, and obvious, choice for the tournament.
“Matt [Giteau] is a huge supporter of Primary School rugby in Canberra and the surrounding region and we thank him for, once more, attending the event to present the prizes at the culmination of the day’s fixtures.”
Teams from fifteen local primary schools will compete in the event with thirty-nine teams taking part overall, twenty in Year 3 and 4, and a further nineteen in the Years 5 and 6 competitions.
“I’m really looking forward to the Matt Giteau Cup this Friday,” Giteau said.
“This is an amazing event for the kids to run around and have fun with their mates while playing our great game. I hope to see as many of you there as possible!”
The action commences at David Campese Oval in Queanbeyan from 9.30am on Friday morning with games due to take place throughout the day with the event likely to close by around 2pm.
Spectators are encouraged to attend the 2019 Matt Giteau Cup with free admission to the venue on the day.
