Welcome to Brumbies Buzz, a bi-weekly look at all things happening here at Brumbies HQ during the 2017/18 Pre-Season.It’s the final day of training at Brumbies HQ before the boy’s break for a well-earned Christmas holiday.

They’ll be back on deck in early January but before they are, let’s see what’s been happening over the past few days.

MEDIA TRAINING

As we approach Christmas it was time for some of the new players to be given some non-intensive media training and to practice public speaking with a short session at Brumbies HQ.

Our new recruits including Folau Fainga’a, Darcy Swain, Andy Muirhead, Mees Erasmus, James Verity-Amm, Chance Peni, Isi Naisarani, Richie Arnold and Mac Hansen were put through their paces learning how to handle the media and improving their public speaking.

It can be daunting getting up in front of a camera to answer the public’s questions, so it was great to see the boy’s doing well in this area!

SECRET SANTA

Like many offices around Australia at this time of year, the Brumbies held their office part during the week with the obligatory ‘Secret Santa’ taking place and the players and staff kitted out in anything blue, yellow and white as long as it wasn’t kit!

As usual, the quality of gifts in the Secret Santa varied from the sublime to the ridiculous but each player and staff member ended the day with a Christmas gift to cherish……well, sort of….

STANDOUT PERFORMER

Sam Carter has been leading by example on and off the field after putting in a diligent shift in front of the media cameras to help launch our new kit on Tuesday at the University of Canberra,‘Carts’ spoke of his time leading the team last season and it’s been evident from his form on the paddock that he is already playing an integral part of Dan McKellar’s leadership group for 2018.

Whilst the appointment of a club captain won’t be made until the New Year, Carter is certainly one of several very experienced options that the Brumbies have to lead them on the field.

SESSION NOTES

The open rugby sessions that form part of the team’s schedule each day have certainly seen some lively action with some tremendous passing and running boding well for some well-executed back-line moves in 2018.Speed and agility is an integral part of the Brumbies game plan and the boys have been focusing hard on this area of the game during the last week with some innovative drills.
