31 Jan Brumbies Face Waratahs in Goulburn Test
The Plus500 Brumbies
will head to Goulburn on Thursday 7 February for their second, and final, trial
match when they take on their oldest foes, the Waratahs at the Goulburn Workers
Having already defeated the Rebels 52-38 in a free-flowing match at Viking Park on Australia Day, the Brumbies are fine-tuning their preparations ahead of the Super Rugby season opener at GIO Stadium on Friday 15 February against the side from Melbourne.
Brumbies Head Coach Dan McKellar welcomes back some of his Wallaby internationals for the Waratahs match with Rory Arnold, Tom Banks, Folau Fainga’a and Pete Samu set to feature alongside Christian Lealiifano and crowd favourite Henry Speight.
This is more than just a match though as there is plenty happening off the field away from the main event including a Free Junior Brumbies Rugby clinic running from 4.05pm to 5.30pm where the Brumbies Community Rugby team will be on hand to help develop the skills of the next generation of Brumbies stars!
Mayor Bob Kirk encouraged the community to get down to the Goulburn Workers Arena on Thursday 7 February to see some high-quality Rugby up close.
“It will be a wonderful summer night in early February and a great atmosphere at the Workers Arena,” Mayor Kirk said.
“There is nothing better than seeing professional sport played up close in a ‘park footy’ ground – you can hear every tackle and collision as well as see all the skill on display only metres away.”
President of Goulburn Rugby Union, Peter Greaves, thanked Council for their support of the event.
“Without the support of Council and the Goulburn Workers Club, we simply wouldn’t be able to attract a game of this quality to Goulburn. The Goulburn Rugby Union Club will be cooking the barbecues and running the canteen and bar for the afternoon and look forward to seeing a big crowd up there.
“As it is a pre-season trial it’s also a great chance to get up close and personal with players who will be able to engage with fans and sign autographs for kids.”
The Plus500 Brumbies would like to thank Goulburn Mulwaree Council for their support of this event. If you are looking for accommodation in Goulburn for the match visit: https://www.goulburnaustralia.com.au/Accommodation/Goulburn-Surrounds-Accommodation-Guide.aspx.
