26 Nov Rest In Peace Shane Madden, Brumbies Life Member
The Plus500 Brumbies, and the ACT & SNSW rugby community, are saddened to report that Life Member Shane Madden passed away on Friday 23 November.
Shane, who was granted Life Membership in 2008, was well known in in the local rugby community having officiated as an ACT Rugby referee in over 300 games from the years 1987 to 2006 in the lower grades of the ACT senior competitions, as well as at Schoolboys, Juniors and Women’s tournaments.
Shane was a Level 1 certified Referee Coach with the Australian Rugby Union and was a Member, and later Chairman, of the ACTRU Judiciary from 1987 until 2009. Shane was also Chairman of the Brumbies Disciplinary Committee from 1999 to 2009.
Shane also served an ACT Magistrate, beginning his role at the court in December 1996, also becoming the first Childrens Court Magistrate three years later.
Before becoming a Magistrate he was a prosecutor with the ACT Director of Public Prosecutions.
He also oversaw an Indigenous Sentencing Court and conducted the coronial inquest into the botched Canberra Hospital implosion.
