22 Sep Six Brumbies on the Plane to SA
Wallabies coach Michael Cheika has named six Plus500 Brumbies in his squad for their two-game tour of South Africa and Argentina.
Scott Sio and Allan Alaalatoa are included in the props, with Folau Fainga’a being one of three hookers included in the 30-strong selection.
Rory Arnold has been in superb form since his recall to action and earns a seat on the plane. David Pocock continues his career-season in Gold, likely to wear eight for the two fixtures.
Tom Banks is the only Brumbies back included in the squad, Joe Powell being left in Canberra to get more game time with the Vikings in the NRC.
2019 recruit Pete Samu is unavailable due to a knee injury sustained against Argentina, though he’s not likely to be out for long.
Wallabies coach Michael Cheika said: “There’s an opportunity presented to us now to get some good victories overseas and that’s going to come from consistency in the way that we play.
“We have got some news additions to the squad and these guys have shown plenty of grit and determination to get an opportunity at a higher level so now we’re looking for them to add that to the mix.
“We’re very determined to make sure that we repay the faith and show people what we’re about in the way we play,” Cheika said.
The Wallabies will square off against South Africa at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth next Sunday morning (1.00am AEST) before flying to Argentina to face the Pumas in Salta the following weekend.
