10 Aug Dargaville signs Brumbies extension
Wing James Dargaville has extended his Plus500 Brumbies journey by agreeing to a new one-year extension to his contract that will tie him to the club for the 2018 Super Rugby Season.
Dargaville, who made his debut for the Brumbies in 2015 against the Reds in Canberra, initially joined the club from Shute Shield side Sydney University having starred in that competition.
He was selected for the Sydney Stars team that participated in the 2014 National Rugby Championships, and scored three tries in eight appearances for the club before switching to the National Capital.
A product of the Mater Maria Catholic School in Warriewood, the Southport Queensland, born utility back has the potential to play either centre positions or on the wing and is a hard-runner with the ball in hand.
“It’s great to be signing for the Brumbies for another season and I am looking forward to 2018 with the club,” Dargaville commented.
“I have been with the Brumbies for a couple of seasons now and feel that I have settled in well and have enjoyed my time with the club, especially when I have been in the matchday twenty-three.
“We have a great group of players at the Brumbies and I am keen to put my best foot forward and show that I have a lot to offer the team. I love Canberra as a city and the community here gets behind us in a big way, which is great.
“I believe the Brumbies certainly have the playing group and the potential to go very far in the Super Rugby competition and I am enthusiastic to be able to play my part in what should be a very exciting year.”
Brumbies Head Coach Dan McKellar was pleased that Dargaville had committed to the club for an extra year after some strong performances during the 2017 Super Rugby season.
“This will be Dargs [Dargaville’s] fourth year in the program and, as such, he brings a great deal of experience,” McKellar commented.
“He does the basics very well, has good defence and is good at the breakdown and always does his job well. He is starting to become one of our more experienced backs.
“As this will be his fourth year with the Brumbies we will be looking for Dargs to step up both on and off the field in 2018.”
