31 Aug Contract Extension for Backrower Hyne
Backrower Ben Hyne has signed a new one-year deal with the Plus500 Brumbies keeping him at the Super Rugby franchise until at least the culmination of the 2018 season.
Queensland-born Hyne originally drove the fifteen-hours from his home in Rockhampton to Canberra for a pre-season opportunity with the Brumbies in 2016 and was rewarded with a Super Rugby debut that turned into a full-time contract with the club.
Hyne became Brumby number 185 when he ran on against the Reds in Canberra in 2016 and he has since gone on to make five appearances for the ACT side having proven his worth.
“I am looking forward to continuing my association with the Brumbies heading into the 2018 Super Rugby season,” Hyne commented upon committing his immediate future to the club.
“I made the decision to come to Canberra after playing with Brisbane City in the NRC in 2015 and haven’t looked back since day one. It’s an amazing club and a great city to live in”
“The Brumbies, and their supporters, have made me feel very much at home since I arrived here and I’m looking forward to continuing to develop professionally and personally with the new Brumbies staff and squad in 2018”.
Hyne has put in several impressive displays for the Brumbies when called upon, mirroring the immediate impact he had on the Tuggeranong Vikings at club level, being awarded joint recipient of the MacDougall Medal for the Aquis Entertainment John I Dent Cup in 2016.
“2018 will be Ben’s third season in our program. Over the last two years we have seen huge development in his game and we feel that if Ben continues to work hard he will be pushing for selection every week,” Brumbies Head Coach Dan McKellar commented.
“He has the ability and the potential to make a real mark at the top level of the game. Ben is a very good defender, is a genuine line-out option and possesses a high work rate. All excellent attributes that he has shown at club and NRC level.
“The challenge for Ben in 2018 is to transfer those strong areas of his game to Super Rugby on a consistent basis.
“Knowing the attitude and application that Hyney has towards his game we are really excited about what the future holds for him at the Brumbies.”
