Cusack stays with Brumbies

Plus500 Brumbies has continued their recruitment for the 2018 and 2019 Super Rugby season by confirming the re-signing of Canberra born flanker Tom Cusack.

The former Australian Sevens star, who joined the club at the commencement of the 2017 season, has committed his future to the Brumbies.

“I am very pleased to be able to commit to the club,” Cusack said. “To play for the Brumbies has always been a goal of mine and I was very happy to become part of the team this season.

“We have a really close knit group at the Brumbies, it really is a family atmosphere, and I am looking forward to being able to contribute fully to the team as we push for success.

“I feel I have settled in well this season and I have been enjoying my football. Club-wise Royals are having an outstanding season and I am looking forward to playing my part for both Royals and the Brumbies to the best of my ability.”

The signature of Cusack continues the Brumbies fine tradition of selecting talented home-grown players in their Super Rugby squad.

“It’s great news that Tom has decided to re-sign with us for the 2018 and 2019 season,” Plus500 Brumbies CEO Michael Thomson commented.

“As a local product we are very pleased that Tom will remain with the Brumbies. We are committed to providing a genuine pathway for young Canberra talent to make the elite level and Tom is another example of the talent that Canberra has in abundance.”

Schooled at Marist College, Cusack is a Canberra Royals junior players and was with the Australian Sevens program from 2013, competing in the squad that travelled to the 2014 Commonwealth Games and then to Rio for the 2016 Olympic Games.

He represented Australia Schoolboys in 2010 and was a member of the team that played at the 2012 IRB U20 World Cup alongside fellow Brumbies Allan Alaalatoa, James Dargaville Kyle Godwin and Leslie Leulua’iali’i-Makin.

Meanwhile, Plus500 Brumbies lock Tom Staniforth will sign for the Waratahs for the 2018 Super Rugby season.

The Canberra born local, who has played 21 times for the club, up to and including Round 15, will swap his hometown for Sydney in a bid to further his career.

“Whilst we are sorry to see a player like Tom depart the club we understand his reasoning and wish him all the very best for the future,” CEO Michael Thomson said.

“Tom is an ambitious and talented young player and has the skill-set, and the drive and determination, to play regular first team football.

“At the Brumbies we are blessed to have two World Class locks in our Wallabies international duo Sam Carter and Rory Arnold and competition is fierce in that department.

“Tom has been a great contributor to the Brumbies in his time with us and he will always be part of our club.”
