22 Jun Brumbies take home Austbrokers Canberra Cup
The Plus500 Brumbies have taken home the Austbrokers Canberra Cup after a 61-14 victory over a game Asia Pacific Dragons side at the Queenstown Stadium in Singapore.
A tough match played in sweltering conditions, the Brumbies put on a show for the Singapore locals in attendance, running in nine tries to two in a free-flowing match.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing for the visitors, the Dragons running in the first try of the match after 20 minutes through centre Lex Kaleca. A successful conversion meant the home side had a 7-0 lead.
Just under 10 minutes later the Brumbies hit back, Tom Cusack barging over from close range to score the Brumbies first of the match. Wharenui Hawera added the extras and the game was tied a 7-7.
Just before halftime the Dragons regained the lead, Sione Misiloi scoring to give his side a 12-7 lead. Another successful conversion meant the Brumbies trailed 14-7 heading into the break.
It didn’t take the Brumbies long to strike after halftime, Tom Banks finishing off a good move to help tie the scores up at 14.
With half an hour to go the Brumbies introduced some familiar faces, Tomas Cubelli and Christian Lealiifano returning from long layoffs to the field for the Brumbies.
The halves pairing ignited the side, the Brumbies scoring four tries in the next 15 minutes to rush out to a 40-14 lead with 15 minutes left to play.
Jordan Jackson-Hope then crossed for two tries in as many minutes to help blow the score out, the youngster showing great finishing skills to help push the lead out to 54-14.
With only a minute to play the Brumbies scored their ninth and final player, Royals winger George Morseu showing off his incredible pace to score under the posts for the Brumbies and finish the game at 61-14.
