15 Mar Brumbies ready to enforce dominance in the derby
The Plus500 Brumbies have their sights set on back-to-back victories this weekend, as they travel up the Hume Highway for the hugely anticipated clash against the Waratahs.
The boys from the capital will be looking to continue their dominance over the New South Welshmen, which saw them break a 14-year drought in Sydney to come out on top in both fixtures last season.
But with only one crack at the boys in blue in the regular season the Brumbies will have to be at their best if they are to leave Sydney with the bragging rights this time around.
Josh Mann-Rea is predicting a fierce battle between the two rivals this Saturday, as his team aims to cement their place on top of the Australian Conference.
According to the hooker this hasn’t been an average week at training. The intensity has been lifted and hits have been harder as the Brumbies’ prepare for battle.
“It’s the Local Derby. They have the two losses and we’re coming off a win. There is a lot to play for so it’s going to be a fierce encounter,” Mann-Rea said.
“Thiss week is a very special week for the Brumbies. Everyone gets pretty excited about playing the fellas up the road.
“This week everyone is a little more amped and training is more physical so it’s very exciting.”
Last weeks win saw the Brumbies leapfrog three teams to take top spot on the table but having just two points separate first from forth makes this Saturday’s clash even more vital.
After starting the season with three games that have gone down to the wire, Mann-Rea can’t see this game ending any differently. He believes that the Brumbies’ bench may be the difference in this weekend’s showdown.
“If you are on the bench this week you will be expected to come on and bring some good impact, a lot of energy and get the guys home,” he said.
“The bench has been pretty good at it so far but it’s just even more important this week.”
The Brumbies will lock horns with the Waratahs this Saturday at 7:45pm at Allianz Stadium.
