Brumbies U20 Squad Announced

The Brumbies have announced their U20 squad that will compete in the Super U20’s competition during 2017. The 36-player group includes three contracted Super Rugby players and a host of talented youngsters eager to make their mark.

New Plus500 Brumbies Rob Valetini, Ryan Lonergan and Nick Jooste, who have all been included in the first-grade squad for the forthcoming campaign, can expect to see game-time at this important developmental level as the team face four matches as they aim for a Grand Final place.

The campaign proper will begin in February when the Rebels visit Canberra on Sunday 5 March before a trek up the Hume Highway a week later to face off against Gen Blue, the Waratahs U20’s Squad, in Wollongong.

Further matches back in Canberra against the Force (19 March) and the Reds (26 March) will complete the calendar with the Grand Final of the Super-20 Competition scheduled for Saturday 1 April.

“The squad looks to be a very balanced one on paper and we are looking forward to seeing what they can achieve at this level,” Brumbies Pathways Head Coach Russell Ingram commented.

“We have high hopes of this group and, in particular, several members who have been in excellent form during the past twelve months and have earned the chance to train alongside the Super Rugby team in pre-season.

“The addition of Rob [Valetini], Ryan [Lonergan] and Nick [Jooste] will boost the ranks and there are a number of these players who will be knocking on the door of Australian under-20 selection later this year.”

Before the cut and thrust of competitive action commences, the squad face four trial matches beginning on Saturday 4 February when they travel to meet the Rebels in Wagga. A fixture against the Waratahs in Bowral follows in 11 February before the Uni-Norths Owls will provide the opposition in a friendly at the University of Canberra.

A further match, pencilled in for 25 February, could see Japan U20 coming to the capital with administrators working on finalising the fixture.
