Lausii Taliauli signs on for new deal with Brumbies

Aquis Brumbies winger Lausii Taliauli has recommitted to the club on a new one-year deal for 2017.

Former Australian Sevens representative, Taliauli, has been earmarked as one of Australia’s top wing prospects following his debut for the Brumbies in round one of the 2015 Super Rugby Season against the Queensland Reds at GIO Stadium. He’s now made 15 appearances for the side over two seasons, crossing for three tries.

The 23-year old says he’s looking forward to his third season with the Brumbies.

“It’s a huge honour to play for the Brumbies and I’m really looking forward to 2017,” Taliauli said.

“I’ve really enjoyed my first two seasons of Super Rugby here in Canberra. It’s the perfect fit for me to stay here and continue pushing myself here at the Brumbies.

“Talking to the boys, we are all looking forward to getting stuck into next season together.”

Brumbies Head Coach Stephen Larkham says there’s a huge opportunity for Taliauli to push his case for more games in 2017.

“We are definitely impressed with what we’ve seen from Lausii over his first two seasons of Super Rugby,” Larkham said.

“We’ve seen that he is a player who can make a real impact either as a reserve or in our starting side.

“We have some great competition for our wing spots in 2017 and having Lausii recommit to the squad adds great depth out wide for the squad.”

Born in New Zealand but raised on Australia’s Gold Coast from the age of 14, Taliauli began to make strides in his rugby career playing for The Southport School.

In 2010, Taliauli crossed for two crucial second half tries in the National Schoolboys Championships final, to help Queensland II claim the title.

After graduation he switched to rugby league and played for the Gold Coast Titans under-20 side for two years before concentrating on Sevens Rugby where he represented Australia in tournaments in Glasgow and London in 2014.

He made his debut with the University of Canberra Vikings during the 2014 National Rugby Championship (NRC) season and has developed into a classy-finisher and hard-hitting winger for both the Brumbies and University of Canberra Vikings.

Touted as one of the Brumbies fastest sprinters, his pace and size has been a feature of the John I Dent Cup for the past two years with the Canberra Royals.
