02 Jul Dowsett re-signs for two more seasons
Up-and-coming scrumhalf Michael Dowsett has re-signed with the UC Brumbies for another two seasons taking his commitment with the club through to the end of 2016.
The Sydney born and raised halfback has served an apprenticeship under Nic White for the last eight months having landed in Canberra in December on and EPS deal. Now upgraded, Dowsett will enjoy a full contract with the club from 2015 with the aim of pushing White for his starting No. 9 spot.
“It’s a big relief for me to have my future sorted so I can stay here playing with this group,” Dowsett said on Wednesday.
“Playing and training with household names has been a big step up for me this year, but I feel like I’ve been able to improve my game and I’m quickly learning what it takes to be a full-timer in this competition.
“Working with experienced guys like Stephen Larkham and Nic White has really improved my game over the last 12 months and I know that I’ve got more room for growth if I stay here in this program.
“I’d like to thank the Brumbies coaching staff for their show of faith in me. I’ll be working hard over the next two years to have a positive influence on the way our team performs.”
After a standout season with Norths in Sydney’s Shute Shiled back in 2013, Dowsett came to the attention of the UC Brumbies coaching staff via former Brumby and now Northern Suburbs Head Coach, Scott Fava.
One of two Scots College old boys, along with Sam Carter, Dowsett has reworked his schoolboy skills to boast one the better passes in the Australian Conference.
His running game was also an area UC Brumbies coaching staff have been impressed with and those skills were never more evident that during the World Club 10s in Singapore. Dowsett scored a couple of cracking tries including one 80 metre effort to thrust his side into the Final against the Blues.
Dowsett’s signature is one of the final pieces in the 2015 playing roster, with Matt Toomua, Nic White, Joe Tomane, Henry Speight, Jesse Mogg, Scott Fardy, Scott Sio, Jarrad Butler, Christian Lealiifano, Tom Staniforth, Allan Alaalatoa and Head Coach Stephen Larkham all committing over the last two months.
