Pat McCabe is an exciting young prospect who joins the CA Brumbies’ senior squad in 2010. Boasting a strong kicking and powerful running game, very sound defence and the ability to read and predict play, McCabe is well armed should he be required to make his Investec Bank Super 14 debut in 2010. The utility back was very impressive in his outings at fullback for the Brumby Runners during the season and the CA Brumbies on their French development tour. McCabe capped off his appaearances for the Runners against the Australian Barbarians and the Junior Waratahs with a try in each match while his consistent and high quality performances for the CA Brumbies in France led to him to being voted the ‘Player of the Tour’, despite the number of senior players in the squad. McCabe, who is a graduate of the 2009 Brumbies Academy, has a mature approach to his football despite his 21 years age. A knee injury sustained while playing club football for Warringah, robbed him of a possible Investec Bank Super 14 debut in 2009 when Mark Gerrard was also sidelined with a torn hamstring. McCabe enters the CA Brumbies’ senior squad with a wealth of experience, having made his State debut for NSW as an 18-year-old against Northampton on their UK development tour. He finished the tour with two caps and a try in their 20-17 win over Leinster A. 2007 was a strong representative year for the rising star who played three matches (including the final) for the Australian Rugby Championship-winning Central Coast Rays and played at flyhalf and fullback for the Australian Under 19’s – alongside Alfi Mafi – in their third place finish at the IRB Junior World Championship in Belfast.
