Ben Hand marked his first season with the CA Brumbies by starting in all 13 Investec Bank Super 14 fixtures. The former Waratahs lock joined the two-time Super Rugby champions from Italian Super 10 titleholders, Rugby Calvisano. Despite his relatively new standing within the side, Hand took control of the CA Brumbies’ lineout and became a mature voice and cool head within the starting pack. After forming a solid lock partnership with Mark Chisholm and then Peter Kimlin, Hand was a senior member of the CA Brumbies touring side that embarked on the four-match development tour to France. Hand started in three of the four tour matches and chimed in with a timely maiden try for his province to seal a 17-0 win over French Top 14 champions, Perpignan. Prior to joining the CA Brumbies, Hand made his Investec Super 14 debut for the Waratahs after being called into the squad to replace Daniel Vickerman, who would miss the 2007 season following a shoulder reconstruction. Between representing the Waratahs, Rugby Calvisano, captaining the Western Sydney Rams and two seasons of Investec Super 14 rugby, Hand has developed into an excellent lineout technician, has trademarked his performances with a workhorse work rate and will continue to take a leadership role within the side.
