Mark Chisholm

Lock Mark Chisholm has been a consistent component of the CA Brumbies’ forward pack in 2008. The colossal second rower has figured among the side’s top try scorers with three tries, as well as remaining a strong option in the CA Brumbies lineout and proving a dangerous proposition with ball in hand. Brumby Jack caught up with Chisholm prior to the CA Brumbies’ final match of the season against the Western Force.

Brumby Jack: What’s the importance of Friday night’s match against the Force?
Mark Chisholm:
Every time you put on the Brumbies jumper you want to win. Being the last match of the season everyone wants to play well as a team and individually to finish the season on a good note.

BJ: What’s different about playing a local derby?
MC:
Local derbies are always a big thing. It’s always nice to get one up over the other Australian teams but you also want to get yourself noticed in front of the Wallabies selectors as well.

BJ: How important are these matches in terms of Wallaby selection?
MC:
Our main focus on Friday is to win and play well for the Brumbies and if we can do that then other selections will take care of themselves.

BJ: What are the challenges of playing against someone like Nathan Sharpe?
MC:
He’s been one of the top locks with the Wallabies and at this [Investec Super 14] level for a long time. You always look forward to playing against the best and realise that if you’re going to beat him to the Wallabies position, you not only need to play better than him but significantly better than him.

BJ: How have you rated your own season this year?
MC:
Probably a bit above par. There’s been areas in my game that I need to work on whether that be physicality or attitude-related things, but at this stage I’d give my season a six or seven out of 10.
