Tim Wright

Winger/fullback Tim Wright returns to the CA Brumbies line-up after making his debut with the side in 2007. Wright, who became the 100th-capped CA Brumby against the Chiefs last year, rejoined the squad last week having previously represented the Australian Sevens squad during 2007/08. Brumby Jack caught up with Tim ahead of the side’s clash against the Hurricanes at Canberra Stadium.

Brumby Jack: How does it feel to be back with the CA Brumbies?
Tim Wright:
It’s awesome. It’s another great opportunity; I love being down here, the guys are terrific and it’s great to have the chance to play Super 14 again.

BJ: How did the return come about?
TW:
I was fortunate to be down here last year and I’d been playing with the Australian Sevens side. With the side having a few injuries, I got the call to come down and play [Brumby] Runners and it just went from there.

BJ: What were you thinking when you got the call to come back down?
TW:
I thought I was just going to come down here and play a few Runners games because they were a bit short. Then there were another couple of injuries and now all my Christmases have come at once! I never expected to play Super 14 rugby again but it’s great to get another opportunity.

BJ: How have you found being part of the Australian Sevens squad?
TW:
Sevens is great. It’s a lot tougher than people think. It’s really physical and hard in terms of contact and beating people in one-on-one situations and it’s a lot more difficult than people give it credit for. It’s good for helping develop skills.

BJ: What was it like making your return to Investec Super 14 rugby in front of your family and friends?
TW:
It was great and it’s something you always dream of doing. It was unfortunate that the conditions didn’t really suit and I wasn’t able to get much ball. But just being out there in that environment, playing that standard of footy is something I’ve always wanted to do and it’s just great to be able to do it.

BJ: You played against the Hurricanes in Wellington last year. What are you expecting from them on Friday night?
TW:
They’re very physical. They try to be dominant at the breakdown and in the contact area but they can also throw it around a bit unstructured, so we’ve got to be on the ball, we’ve got to kick well and we’ve got to match their physicality and tackle well.
