Adam Ashley-Cooper

Utility back Adam Ashley-Cooper has been included as one of six CA Brumbies to be included in the Wallabies’ squad for the domestic Test series that kicks off against the Barbarians in Sydney on Saturday, June 6. Ashley-Cooper joins Stirling Mortlock, Ben Alexander, Stephen Moore, Peter Kimlin and George Smith as CA Brumbies selected in the squad. Brumby Jack caught up with Ashley-Cooper following his selection in the Wallabies squad.

Brumby Jack: How did you feel when you found out you were in the Wallabies side? Was it a sense of relief or do you feel excited each time you’re selected?
Adam Ashley-Cooper:
It’s a little of both actually. There’s that sense of relief that the hard work you’ve put in during the season has paid off and there’s the excitement of what’s ahead. Obviously there’s a lot of Test match footy to be played at the end of the year and with this new squad selected it’s exciting to be a part of.

BJ: How much does Wallaby selection play on your mind during the Investec Super 14 Season?
AAC:
None whatsoever. Everyone’s focused on the task at hand and performing well for the Brumbies. We’re all disappointed that we just missed out on the semis but unfortunately that’s footy and that’s life. Now it’s time to put that behind us and look what’s ahead and it’s about doing what we can to crack that 22 and play for your country.

BJ: Have you got your eye on any particular position within the Wallabies?
AAC:
No, not at all. I’ve never really had a preference, I just want that opportunity to play football, and wherever I’m selected I’ll grab with two hands and try to make the most of it.

BJ: How much does the opportunity of playing a Test match in Canberra against Italy excite you?
AAC:
That’d be fantastic and it really excites me. The last Test in Canberra was during the World Cup in 2003 and the last time Australia played here was in 2000. Snorky [Stirling Mortlock] was a part of that game and he said it was awesome and going from what he said it’s going to be a great night out. Canberra Stadium and the Canberra crowds create a great atmosphere at Super 14 level so I can only imagine what it’s going to be like at Test level. I can’t wait to run out onto Canberra Stadium – my home ground – in national colours.
