Peter Kimlin is a powerful, young and sizeable prospect for the CA Brumbies who has proven himself equally adept at lock, blindside flanker and No.8. Kimlin, who was a member of the Brumbies Academy at the beginning of 2007, made his CA Brumbies debut in pre-season trials against the NSW Waratahs and Hurricanes before signing a one-year rookie contract four weeks into the Investec Super 14 season. Two weeks later the towering redhead made his Investec Super 14 debut against the Stormers in the CA Brumbies’ 26-13 win at Canberra Stadium and finished the provincial season with three caps to his name. Kimlin continued his strong form into the Mazda Australian Rugby Championship, taking part in each of the Navy Canberra Vikings’ eight matches and scoring two tries off the bench against the East Coast Aces and the Sydney Fleet. The 22 year old, who is a reliable lineout option and boasts a deceptively quick turn of speed, has signed a two-year contract with the CA Brumbies.
Born in Canberra, the former Canberra Grammar School student represented the Australia A Schoolboys in 2004, also joining the Brumbies Academy that year. On graduating from the Canberra private school, Kimlin joined local club side, Western District where he was a member of their John I Dent Cup premiership side in 2005, before being selected in the 2006 Australian Rugby Shield-winning ACT & Southern NSW Vikings side. Kimlin, who scored tries in his side’s semi final win over Perth Gold and their grand final victory against the Melbourne Axemen, was later named the ACT & Southern NSW Vikings’ Player of the Series.
