McDonald’s, the world’s leading restaurant chain, has signed a one-year sponsorship agreement with the CA Brumbies and local rugby in the ACT and Southern NSW. The partnership, that includes a focus on junior rugby, player and crowd behaviour, and coach and referee education, was announced today at Canberra Grammar School, one of many local rugby nurseries in the ACT. Brumbies Rugby CEO Andrew Fagan says he is proud to be involved with McDonald’s. “McDonald’s is one of the world’s strongest brands and we’re very proud to have them involved with rugby in the ACT and Southern NSW,” he said. “McDonald’s has an unrivalled reputation in providing high quality service and products. As we look to take our brand to the world, there’s a lot we can learn from the success of McDonald’s. “McDonald’s restaurants have a history of supporting their local communities and through this new partnership they are investing in the future of our sport, which is greatly appreciated. We hope this is the start of a long and successful partnership.” Garry Moffitt, one of seven Canberra McDonald’s licensees committed to developing the relationship with local rugby clubs, says he is pleased to be giving back to the local community. “We see this as a fantastic opportunity to be involved with the CA Brumbies and to support rugby union at a grass roots level,” he said. “We understand the importance of nurturing and promoting rugby and good sportsmanship. It’s our goal to help provide the skills and examples of behaviour to continue to excellent participation of rugby in the ACT and Southern NSW. Former Canberra Grammar students, now CA Brumbies-contracted players Guy Shepherdson and Peter Kimlin were on hand for the announcement. Both Shepherdson and Kimlin are products of the ACT Junior Rugby Union competition and the local development pathway. Through the partnership, McDonald’s will hold the naming rights to the ACT Junior Rugby Union competition, including the provision of ‘Behaviour Expectations’ signage for all junior fixtures across ACT & Southern NSW. These signs allow the ACT Junior Rugby Union to follow the ACT Governments ‘Good Sports Territory’ guidelines. The partnership, with a second year option, also includes sponsorship of all junior rugby union representative teams and Brumbies Rugby school holiday clinics within the ACT & Southern NSW region, and major Sponsor of coach education accreditation courses (Level 1 & 2) and referees accreditation courses. The ACT Junior Rugby Union pre-season competition kicks off on 31 March with the regular season competition commencing on Saturday 1 May. * Image shows students from Canberra Grammar School, McDonald's representatives Ben Moffitt, Craig Coleman, Con Kourpanidis and Garry Moffitt, CA Brumbies Guy Shepherdson and Peter Kimlin, and Brumbies Rugby CEO Andrew Fagan.
