Mark Gerrard has been a bastion of the CA Brumbies backline for the past five seasons. The 25 year old, who signed a three-year extension to his contract last season, will resume his position in the outside backs as a senior member of the squad in 2007. Gerrard passed 50 Investec Super 14 career caps last season taking part in each match for the CA Brumbies and scoring two tries courtesy of a double in their 36-10 win over the Waratahs at Canberra Stadium. Gerrard, who boasts a strong long kicking game, powerful running and a baffling step, added a further four international caps to his tally during the Wallabies’ domestic Test season before earning selection in his first Rugby World Cup squad. Unfortunately Gerrard, who was twice denied his Wallaby debut through injury in 2004, was again struck down during the World Cup lasting just one minute in the Wallabies 91-3 win over Japan before a knee injury ruled him out of the remainder of the tournament.

Born in Sydney and of Tongan descent, Gerrard played junior rugby league with Manly before switching codes in 2000. Within a year of making the transition he was selected in the Australian Under 19’s before debuting for the Waratahs against the Hurricanes in New Plymouth the following season. On the back of three consecutive seasons with the Australian Under 21’s, Gerrard joined the CA Brumbies in 2003, scoring on debut against the Sharks in Durban. The following year he scored 10 tries in their Championship season, including a hat trick in their 47-38 win over the Crusaders in the final. Gerrard made the first of his 23 Wallaby appearances against Italy in Melbourne in 2005 and went on to play all seven Tests that season, including the Spring Tour.
