A proven leader within the CA Brumbies pack, Alister Campbell returns for his fifth season of Investec Super 14 rugby. The lineout general became the sixth player to captain the CA Brumbies in their Week Two match against the Blues at Canberra Stadium when Stirling Mortlock was ruled out due to a head knock sustained against the Chiefs. Unfortunately Campbell encountered injury concerns of his own when he sustained a fractured foot against the Reds two weeks later, forcing him out for the majority of the season. He returned off the bench for the CA Brumbies’ final round win over the Highlanders. Campbell’s leadership qualities were again recognised when the 28 year old was selected to captain Australia A in the Pacific Nations Cup, and the Navy Canberra Vikings in the Mazda Australian Rugby Championship. The 201-centimetre lock, who was also a member of the 2007 Sydney University premiership-winning side, remained the Navy Canberra Vikings’ most consistent performer through the inaugural provincial competition and was called into the Wallabies’ shadow squad for the Rugby World Cup.

Born in Newcastle, Campbell grew up in Singleton where he began his rugby with the Singleton Bulls. After attending St Joseph’s College in Sydney, he was signed by the Waratahs in 2003 where he made his Super 12 debut against the Cats the following year. The set-piece specialist signed with the CA Brumbies for the 2005 season, a move that reaped instant rewards when he was called into the Australia A team to play the French Barbarians on the 2004 Spring Tour. Campbell made his Test debut against France in Brisbane in 2005 before adding a further three caps to his tally against Italy, Ireland and his first start for the Wallabies against Scotland in Edinburgh during the 2006 Spring Tour.
