Adam Ashley-Cooper stamped himself as one of world rugby’s hottest properties in 2007. The versatile utility back covered fullback, wing and outside centre, playing every match for the CA Brumbies during the Investec Super 14 season. The highlights reel of the powerful and balanced ball runner’s provincial season included a brisk 65-metre try against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein and a stellar 70-metre effort against the Highlanders in Dunedin, which was later recognised as the Australian Investec Super 14 Try of the Year. The 23-year-old, who signed a four-year extension to his contract at the end of the season, was awarded the CA Brumbies’ ‘Best Back’ before winning selection in the Wallabies squad for the domestic Test season. Ashley-Cooper earned Test caps against Wales and Fiji, and capped off his first start in a Tri Nations Test by scoring an outstanding try in the Wallabies’ 20-15 win over the All Blacks in Melbourne. ‘Coopy’s’ rise in Australian rugby was again recognised when he was selected for the Wallabies’ World Cup squad, where he earned a further four Test caps.

Born in Sydney, Ashley-Cooper played his junior rugby for Ourimbah on the NSW Central Coast. In 2005, while on an ARU High Performance Unit contract, he made his Super 12 debut on the wing for the CA Brumbies against the Crusaders at Canberra Stadium. Despite missing the majority of the season with a hamstring injury, Ashley-Cooper’s form for the Australian Under 21’s in Argentina led to his shock Wallabies debut against South Africa in Perth. Not included in the original 22-man squad, he was called onto the Wallabies bench just 10 minutes prior to kick-off when Elton Flatley was ruled out with blurred vision. His two minutes on the field against the Springboks earned him the honour of being the 800th-capped Wallaby. He consolidated his place in the 2006 CA Brumbies line-up and was selected for Australia A against Fiji before winning a place on the Wallaby Spring Tour.
