Stephen Hoiles (pron: hoyls) is a mobile and skilful back-rower who resumes his role as CA Brumbies captain in 2010. The 28-year-old has become an integral member of the CA Brumbies since joining from the Waratahs for the 2007 Investec Bank Super 14 season. Hoiles is an attacking No.8, cunning thinker and strong leader within the CA Brumbies squad. The ACT skipper’s 2009 Investec Bank Super 14 season was hampered by a knee injury suffered in his side’s 21-11 win over the Waratahs which caused him to miss four matches. However, he rebounded in emphatic fashion, scoring a try in his return match against the Bulls at Canberra Stadium and crossing for a double a fortnight later against the Reds. On the completion of the Investec Bank Super 14 season, Hoiles was again at the helm to lead the CA Brumbies in their four-match development tour of France. While the side recorded one win, Hoiles showed the way for the largely inexperienced squad and was named ‘Best Forward’ on tour following their final match against Toulon. Another strong season for Randwick in Sydney’s Shute Shield, including a grand final appearance against Sydney University, led to Hoiles’ selection in the Wallabies’ train-on squad for the Spring Tour. While he was unfortunate to be omitted from the eventual squad, Hoiles will again be ready to ply his trade in a star-studded CA Brumbies back row in 2010.
