Julian Huxley made a triumphant return to the CA Brumbies in 2007 after four seasons with the Queensland Reds. The versatile 28 year old was a revelation for the CA Brumbies in the early rounds of the Investec Super 14, with his sublime tactical kicking game and willingness to take on the defensive line earning him two man-of-the-match efforts in their first two matches against the Chiefs and Blues. Huxley, who covered fullback, flyhalf and inside centre during 2007, started in each of the CA Brumbies matches, scoring three tries and adding a further two man-of-the-match performances. The goal kicking utility’s stellar season was rewarded when he made his previously elusive Wallaby debut against Wales in Sydney. Huxley’s representation during the domestic Test series and recognition as the Wallabies’ Rookie of the Year, led to his selection in the Wallabies’ Rugby World Cup squad where he earned three caps against Wales, Fiji and Canada. Huxley is expected to make a full-time switch to flyhalf in 2008.

Born in Sydney, Huxley, like CA Brumbies captain Stirling Mortlock, played his junior rugby with Lindfield and attended the Kings School. In 1998 he moved to Canberra to study Commercial Law at the Australian University and played with the Canberra Kookaburras and Brumby Runners under coach Laurie Fisher. Huxley joined the CA Brumbies in 2002, kicking six penalties on debut in their 25-18 loss to the Highlanders. After moving to the Reds in 2003, Huxley won the Pilecki Medal for Players Player of the Year before missing the entire 2004 season with a broken jaw and knee injury. The former Australia A and Australian Sevens representative re-signed with the CA Brumbies in 2006 before completing the season with the Australian Provincial Championship-winning CA Brumbies. His profile also rose upon selection as vice captain of the Prime Minister’s XV side that defeated Japan, 61-19.
