Club Administration Guidelines

The strength of Australian Rugby is ensconced in club rugby.  Our on-going success at international level is dependent on strong and dynamic local clubs that will continue to produce players contesting for places on state and national teams.

The game also provides enjoyment for the thousands who play just for fun.  For grass roots rugby to prosper it is imperative that the volunteers who run clubs be supported by efficient and effective structures, policies and procedures that allows them to maximise their time and effort.

The Australian Rugby Union and this Union recognise this fact and have prepared and collated the following documents to assist clubs to achieve these efficiencies.  These documents should be seen as guidelines and adjusted to meet the operating style of the club.

They have a relevance to most clubs because operating and strategic objectives are common, for example:

  • Strong, dynamic clubs perform and thereby attract support at every level;
  • Volunteers remain enthusiastic while they can see that their efforts are making a positive contribution and, to a lesser extent, are appreciated;
  • Clubs seek continuos growth at senior and junior levels;
  • Players at all levels want to improve their skills and enjoy the game; and,
  • Coaches and support staff work on improving their competency.

The following guidelines arise from an objective of running efficient and effective clubs.  They recognise that there is extensive material available from a variety of sources, especially the internet, some of which are referred to for direct input.

These guidelines are set out as a basic reference that reflect some minimum requirements for effective club administration.
