COACHING PATHWAY OVERVIEW RECOMMENDED LEVEL OF EDUCATION & ACCREDITATION “NEW” Coaching Kids Rugby This new course provides coaches and teachers with the fundamentals for coaching kids the modified games of Walla, Mini and Midi Rugby. It has been designed to assist you in creating and atmosphere at training that is enjoyable, requires kids to be active and is a genuine learning experience. SmartRugby is included in the course content. The course is 3 hours in duration. Cost: FREE Resources: Coaching Kids Rugby booklet “How to be a good coach, teacher, trainer and motivator” and DVD “Coaching Kids Rugby explained”. Foundation Course The Foundation Course is an excellent way for coaches and referees to improve their knowledge of rugby and represents the first step in the coaching and referee pathway towards Level 1 accreditation. The Foundation Course is targeted for Coaches involved from U13’s through to seniors and focuses on laws, technical skills and effective coaching and refereeing practice. This course also includes SmartRugby so on completion of the course the participants will have SmartRugby compliance and receive a Foundation Course certificate of attendance. The course is 8 hours in duration. Cost: $66 (incl GST) Resources: Participant Study Guide, Law Book, SmartRugby Booklet and DVD, Foundation Certificate. Level 1 Coaching Assessment This is an assessment only process resulting in participants becoming accredited Level 1 Coaches. Participants are required to complete the following assessment tasks; Level 1 Coach Assessment Exam Complete the Level 1 Coach Assessment exam and gain 90% as a minimum standard. Coaches Competency Assessment & Training Diary Complete the outlined tasks in Planning, Group Management, Communication and Teaching including the; · Learning Task Worksheet · Training Session Plan · Self Assessment Tool Practical Assessment Be assessed by a Brumbies Rugby Assessor completing a minimum of 30 minutes coaching, demonstrating competence under the Level 1 competency criteria. Participants should be coaching U16 A’s and above including junior and senior representative rugby and have held a Level 1 Coaching Accreditation for a minimum of one year prior to attending the course. Participants will attend the Brumbies v Lions game on Friday 5th March 2010. Advanced Coaching Seminar The Advanced Coaching Seminar features presentations by current Brumbies Coaching Staff, Elite Coaches from other sports and Brumbies Rugby Coach Education Staff. The Seminars are aimed at presenting the most up to date coaching and technical information for coaches from Grade, Colts, Open School and Representative teams. Participants should be currently accredited Level 2 coaches and above. Coach Education Series The aim of these sessions is to provide coaches with current techniques and drills to assist with the development of your players. The core skills of catch/pass, tackle and breakdown will be covered as well as game based development with specific set play (scrum/lineout/restarts) on request. The session will run from between 60 to 90 minutes and will be practical only. Cost: FREE
