The big hard-hitting South African is back after his inaugural season in the ACT and is ready to take on a full contract having risen successfully through the ranks.

Having moved to Australia in 2011 JP was summoned down to train with the Brumbies before taking up an initial EPS contract last year. It didn’t take long for JP to get going either, making the most of an unfortunate injury to Scott Sio he was able to make 3 starts and tally up 12 appearances across the season. This hard work definitely paid off and it is no wonder that impressed enough to earn himself a full contract with the Brumbies for 2015.

As to pay tribute to JP’s tremendous first season, JP was also nominated for the Rookie of the Year Award at the John Eales Medal Gala. A prop by nature, this fierce forward has also dabbled with the back-row, only to add to his growing resume.

JP Smith has been begged by his peers in the sheds to keep his golden locks, thus is the stunning resemblance between himself and his twin brother, Ruan. Friendly competition between the two brothers for minutes on the pitch can only bode well for GIO Stadium onlookers wishing for the best performance possibly delivered. Brumbies fans will definitely be excited to see the dynamic duo back in action again this year.

2009-10: Is a member of the Western Province making a handful of appearances in the Vodacom Cup.

2011: Moved back to Australia and is playing for club side GPS Rugby in Brisbane.
