A popular member of the University of Canberra Brumbies playing squad, Mann-Rea heads into the 2014 Super Rugby season with an upgraded contract to make him one of the club’s full-timers.
A no nonsense sort of bloke who brings a taste of the bush to the Australian capital, Mann-Rea’s personality is reflected on the field as a hard-working, tough-as-nails front-rower that other forwards love to play alongside.
A product of the eternal rugby nursery, Nudgee College, Mann-Rea has been on the professional circuit for many years after spells as a Queensland junior and Waratahs Academy member.
A prolific aged-grade Australian representative, Mann-Rea didn’t appear at Super Rugby level until 2012 when he debuted for the Waratahs in Cape Town.
The following year Mann-Rea packed up and moved his young family to Canberra but a knee reconstruction during pre-season cruelled his chances of a full season. While early predictions were grim, Mann-Rea managed to fight his way back into the squad, eventually facing the British and Irish Lions and making his UC Brumbies Super Rugby debut against the Rebels at Canberra Stadium.
Rated the best of the bush from both Queensland and NSW, Mann-Rea had another crack at the British and Irish Lions in 2013 when he was picked to start for the QLD & NSW Country side.
Mann-Rea will be looking to cement a spot in the game-day 23 during the 2014 season.
