Ruan Smith has earned a spot in the UC Brumbies top squad for the 2014 Super Rugby season after impressing during his time on an EPS contract in 2013.
First spotted playing off the bench for the Western Force in 2012, Smith took the plunge and moved to Canberra with the aim of making his way into regular reckoning for the side’s match-day 22.
It wasn’t long before Smith was picking up game time in 2013 and he featured in the entire finals series and historic win over the British and Irish Lions along the way.
One of only a handful of players to have represented two countries at schoolboy level, Smith twice changes allegiances from SA Schools to Australian Schoolboys and then back again.
With twin brother Jean-Pierre joining the ranks on the EPS contract in 2014, the bash brothers have been reunited and look set to tear their way into the Super Rugby competition.
