The University of Canberra Brumbies skipper enters his ninth season of professional rugby in 2014 with an opportunity to become one of the club’s greats.
Should Mowen finish all 16 regular-season games as captain he will equal George Gregan’s club record of 49 appearances as UC Brumbies skipper, a fine accomplishment considering Mowen only moved to the ACT at the end of 2011.
Now regarded as one of Australia’s premier captains, Mowen became the 80th Wallabies skipper in Perth in 2013 when the Wallabies rolled Argentina in their first victory since the British and Irish Lions series.
Having worked hard in the gym since moving to Canberra, Mowen has physically bulked up to become a force at the breakdown. There are few players who hit as many rucks as the UC Brumbies captain, a testament to his big engine and dedication to conditioning.
There are few players as committed to UC Brumbies rugby as Mowen and as a result the big unit has become a crowd favourite at Canberra Stadium.
