More than one third of Australian women experience physical or sexual violence during their lifetime. The YWCA of Canberra works to prevent violence against women by providing young people with tools and support to develop, promote and perpetuate equal, safe and respectful relationships.
Thorough the Respect, Communicate, Choose Program, the YWCA of Canberra encourages young people aged 9 to 12 to become “Respect Champions”, that means to:
Treat people equally and how you want to be treated,
Think about your own needs and those of others,
Be a role model, and
Stand up for others.
The YWCA of Canberra strongly believes that both men and women have an important and positive role to play in ending violence against women and greatly appreciates the work the University of Canberra Brumbies does in creating awareness of this issue and inviting the community to end violence against women.
The YWCA of Canberra is a values led, non-profit community based organisation, providing community services and representing women’s issues in the Canberra community since its establishment in 1929. It supports and develops safe communities for the benefit of women and their families.
