With five games until the Super Rugby finals, University of Canberra Brumbies captain Ben Mowen believes his side will face their biggest test of the year when they confront the in-form NSW Waratahs in Sydney on Saturday night.
The ANZ Stadium blockbuster is looming as another massive challenge for the ACT-based side after spending last weeks bye reflecting on their disappointing loss to the Crusaders in Canberra ten days ago.
The loss left the side gripping to a slender lead at the top of the Australian conference and with important games to follow, Jake White’s men can’t afford another slip up this weekend against the Waratahs.
The NSW side has been in damaging form in recent weeks, notching up several impressive victories over the Chiefs, Kings and Stormers, leaving them still in finals calculations and a massive challenge for Mowen and his troops.
“They are obviously in very good form at the moment, they have knocked over a couple of the top sides and put in some really good performances,” Mowen said.
“The last couple of weeks they have found the way they want to attack, and are starting to feel comfortable in their structures.
“They have threats right across the park and they have started to find their rhythm and the way they want to play under Michael Cheika.
“They are a very talented side, very dangerous side and playing in good form.”
While Mowen hopes a win over the Waratahs will help re-ignite the Brumbies season, he does admit the side has some work to do and will knuckle down this week at training to improve in certain areas.
“The main focus for us is that there are no small moments in a game, every moment is important,” Mowen said.
“Genuinely a lot of the things we are doing are working well but there will be some small adjustments just to try and keep the guys fresh.
“While we will these little adjustments, the core will always be the same though because we have good faith in our systems and we know that they will give us good results.”
The University of Canberra Brumbies play the NSW Waratahs this Saturday night at ANZ Stadium, Sydney with kick off at 7.40pm.
