Up to 16 contracted, EPS and train-on members of the University of Canberra Brumbies squad have been made available for selection this weekend in the John I Dent Cup.
Pat McCabe and Scott Fardy will turn out for Wests, Siliva Siliva for the Royals and Robbie Coleman with his junior club, Queanbeyan Whites. Zack Holmes and Colby Faingaa would have both appeared for the Tuggeranong Vikings had their side not landed on a bye this weekend.
It’s a major boost for the local competition, which has proven over the last two seasons to be one of the strongest metro-rugby tournaments on the Australian calendar.
Having made his way through rehab after suffering a minor ankle injury, Fardy makes his first appearance since the South African block a month ago.
He lines up with Pat McCabe, who comes into the Wests side for the second time after starring for the Lions in last year’s grand final. Wests face off against a Uni-Norths side featuring Tom Cox and scrumhalf Ian Prior at Jamison Oval.
“It’s fantastic that this level of player can be seen in our local competition and it can only have a positive effect on the standard being set in Canberra in 2013,” Head Coach Jake White said.
“There are big names in every game this weekend, with a total of 218 Super Rugby caps playing across the ACT and its surrounding regions.”
“The players are heading out on their annual ActewAGL Country Visits tomorrow as well, so it’s been a fantastic week for the Brumbies to engage with the community.”
