University of Canberra Brumbies fans are being urged to head to Canberra Stadium this Saturday night to see their side battle it out in the top of the table clash with NSW.
It’s been three years since the ACT based side has posted a win over the Tahs, but early season form and a chance to bury their closest rivals at home have helped to build excitement for one of the most anticipated games of the season.
Waratahs v University of Canberra Brumbies games at Canberra Stadium are always exciting encounters, with an average of 32 points being scored by the home side over the eight fixtures since 1996.
In what has traditionally been one of the competition’s biggest rivalries, the University of Canberra Brumbies have always enjoyed victories over the Waratahs that little bit more considering the colourful history the two provinces share.
Hooker Stephen Moore has been part of Saturday’s fixture on five separate occasions and was there to see his side punish the Tahs back in 2009. He said while Saturday’s match would present huge challenges for his young players, the prospect of taking on the Waratahs in front of a packed Canberra Stadium was exciting for everyone involved with the club.
“This is the biggest game of a lot of these young guys’ careers, which is great. These are games you want to play in and play well in,” Moore said.
“Let’s hope we can get 20,000 out there in support of the team and what we are doing. To this point I think we’ve been good but clearly there’s still a long way to go in this competition.
“Injuries have been good to us. It’s always important to stay injury free. To be honest the boys aren’t looking too far ahead.
“No-one thought we’d achieve anything at the start of the year so anything we’ve managed to achieve so far has been excellent. We want to keep building on it every week.”
Saturday is the ninth time the Waratahs have travelled to Canberra.
