Mogg's move to Canberra paying off

Born and raised in Brisbane wearing maroon or red jerseys for his entire youth has provided Jesse Mogg with extra incentive to rip into his former home state this Friday night when the Brumbies face the Reds at Suncorp Stadium.

Aside from trial matches in Darwin and Cairns over the last two pre-seasons, Mogg has never faced his former home state having moved to Canberra in 2010 to further his career with the Brumbies Academy.

A talented outside back who has drawn comparisons to the great Joe Roff, Mogg scored the try of the season against the Sharks after a beautiful chin’n’chase down the right touch line.

“I’m learning new things every week here and improving my game on a weekly basis. All the little things have improved this year,” Mogg said.

“I’m enjoying every minute of being out there. My original goal was just to make the 22 man squad so to have started every game and got a couple of tries has been good for my confidence.

“It’s all about taking opportunities – we work hard as a unit to score points when we are in their territory and to take our opportunities.

I haven’t played at Suncorp since I left Brisbane three years ago. I’ve got a lot of friends and family coming along so I’m really looking forward to it.”

Mogg’s Backs Coach Stephen Larkham said Friday presented a great opportunity for his side to see where it was up to against the current title holders on their home turf.

“I think the whole backline is performing really well. We need to take all our opportunities to score points when we are in their A and B zones,” Larkham said.

“As for Jesse, he’s surprised a lot of people, not so much internally we’ve seen him coming along nicely over the last couple of months and he’s certainly improved since the start of our pre-season campaign.

“He’s game is constantly improving and we saw a glimpse of what he’s capable of on the weekend with his 80 metre try.”
